Remember, sleep was a natural form of intermittent fasting, or “calorie restriction” before hardos started branding the term on YouTube. The name of the game isn’t to always hang out in the 1 or 2 zones and burn fat, but to be filtering between various zones depending on what your body should preferably be burning in specific situations throughout the day.įor instance: when you wake up, you want to be in fat burn. A “1” or “2,” meanwhile, indicates that you’re burning fat, while a “3” is a balanced mixture of the two. While an RER test produces a ratio between the amount of carbon dioxide produced in metabolism and the oxygen used (where a higher ratio indicates the body is relying on carbohydrates for energy), a preponderance of CO 2 will score a “4” or “5” on Lumen’s proprietary software. What is it measuring, exactly? The concentration of CO 2 in your breath. And even if you hit everything to a tee, it’ll likely ask for a secondary reading anyway. If you mess up during any portion of this process, Lumen will make you try it all over again. You inhale until a ring on the screen turns green, hold for 10 seconds, then exhale steady and sharp, using all that blowing to make sure a “ball” stays in the very center of a spectrum at the bottom of the screen. In order to log a reading, you open up the Lumen app on your phone (the device connects via Bluetooth) and select “Measure your metabolism.” The screen will prompt you to sit down and lean back, to ensure your breathing isn’t labored, then walk you through a somewhat annoying, albeit aesthetically pleasing process. Your body should always be ready and willing to make use of whatever fuel’s available to it, which, ideally, would include fat in addition to carbohydrates. ![]() They plug into charging stations, and they can run on biodiesel or ethanol. Excuse the overused automotive analogy, but today’s most efficient cars don’t rely entirely on petrol. ![]() It might help to associate your metabolism with a different quality: flexibility. There isn’t much you can do about your resting metabolism, and if you’re hoping to lose weight, attempts to speed up your metabolism through stringent dieting or excessive exercise often turn out to be self-defeating. These personal perceptions are blindly accepted as relevant to nutritional choices, workout regimens and general weight loss strategies.īut as Harvard Health Publishing points out, that speed or lack thereof (expressed through one’s basal metabolic rate), is largely genetic. As in: so-an-so can eat whatever he wants because he has a fast metabolism. We’re used to speaking colloquially about the speed of metabolisms.

![]() In white collar cases, the repetitional damage from even the mere allegation of a criminal act by a business or its executives can be devastating to professional futures. Nevermind that even the allegations, let alone the actual truth of what happened at Abacus, did not have anything to do with the mortgage lending crisis from 2008. In front of the cameras with the microphones on, the prosecutors did not simply state the charges that they were alleging, but instead used their platform to make sweeping pronouncements about the excesses of the financial system. For example, instead of simply filing the requisite charging documents with the court, District Attorney Vance announced the indictment of Abacus and several of its top executives in a large press conference for the media. Though politics is not supposed to play a role in our justice system, we know that it does. The Politics Involved in a White-Collar Case that are very revealing.įor me as a white-collar defense attorney, the film illuminates several things I see all the time in prosecutions of businesses and individuals accused of business crimes. There are also extended interviews with the attorneys on both sides, including Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. Some of the best scenes from the film are around the dinner table when the father, Thomas Sung, who started the bank, talks trial strategy with his wife Hwei Lin Sung, and their three daughters Jill, Vera, and Chanterelle Sung, all of whom work for the bank in some capacity. The film does a great job showing what it’s like to be under the great weight of the State when it makes false allegations against you. The documentary has incredible access to the family in real time as the trial takes place. Yet this tight-knit, courageous family fights back to set the record straight for themselves and the Chinese-American community. As the film’s title indicates, unlike the high-powered big banks of Wall Street, this community bank appears to be “small enough to jail” for its purported role in the 2008 financial crisis. The film centers on how the Sungs, a Chinese-American immigrant family who runs a storied community bank in New York’s Chinatown (Abacus Federal Savings Bank), became the target of an overzealous prosecution by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. It is high in suspense, surprisingly funny, and has a certain charm to it despite the outrageous legal case that it depicts. ![]() If there’s one film from this year’s Oscars nominations that you should watch, it’s the documentary film Abacus: Small Enough to Jail. ![]() Selecting text in the main text window will highlight corresponding notes in the Zooming will centerĬtrl-left-click-and-hold the mouse to magnify a small section of the Music View Use the Ctrl key and your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. What we like: Super sharp, lightweight, and a great value. But most people will be happy saving with the f/4. If you frequently shoot low-light photography, the f/2.8 may be worth it (or better yet, an even faster prime). Last but not least, many landscape photographers generally shoot in good natural light and don’t need the extra stop of aperture (it’s generally much less important than with an indoor lens). The tipping points for us have been cost and weight: the f/4 is considerably cheaper (around $900 at the time of publication) and weighs nearly 6 ounces less. In some ways, we were hoping that the GM didn’t live up to expectations (wishful thinking) and therefore it would have been easy to stick with the f/4. It’s a tough call between the 16-35mm f/4 and the f/2.8 GM below. For outdoor photographers using the Sony Alpha system, it’s a must-have lens. And optical performance from the f/4 version is great overall: the lens is sharp, has reasonable levels of distortion, creates excellent sunstars, and boasts a weather-sealed build for protection from the elements. And given that this was the first wide-angle zoom for Sony FE, a number of professionals readily adopted this lens during the wait for the inevitable GM version. Based on extensive research, we felt it was the best 16-35mm f/4 on the market including those from heavy hitters like Canon and Nikon. We’ll start by saying that we were an early adopter of the Sony 16-35mm f/4. What we don’t: Falls short of the G Master below in low-light performance. What we like: Great optics and sunstars at a reasonable price and weight. But the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM more than makes up for it with image quality, which is the reason it is the premier FE-mount lens. On a compact camera like the Sony a7R IV, it definitely can feel like a bulky piece of glass. It’s also heavier than either of those two lenses at a whopping 31.3 ounces. The first is price-$2,000 makes it considerably more costly than either the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 or Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. But this lens does have its shortcomings. If you’re looking for the top FE zoom in terms of optical quality, the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is it. ![]() All things considered, it may be the best 24-70mm f/2.8 on the market from any brand. Enter the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM, which is super sharp, creates superb bokeh, and is extremely well built. For Sony FE, first came the mediocre Sony 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6, then the decent Sony 24-70mm f/4, but neither was up to professional standards at this crucial focal length range. The 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is the lens that made Sony’s full-frame mirrorless cameras truly competitive with Canon and Nikon. For more background information, see our Sony FE lens comparison table and buying advice below the picks. Given Sony’s strong relationship with Zeiss, there are plenty of high-end options that should make even the most discerning photographers happy. Below we break down the best Sony FE (full frame) lenses, including zooms and primes from wide angle to telephoto. It’s true that the FE lens options for Sony still are more limited than the offerings for Canon and Nikon cameras, but the collection is growing and far more impressive in 2020 than even a year ago. Sony’s full-frame mirrorless cameras have created a lot of buzz in the photography world. If you are not getting a clear picture of what your efforts are doing, or where you are missing the mark, then you can shut off a valve that can lead to bigger issues down the road.Īs you are starting out, you don't have the luxury of broad marketing budgets to hit larger audiences, expand your ICP exponentially, or broaden to new markets in a rapid expansion phase. I've seen some early-stage organizations run into issues by not bringing revops/marops into the mix early enough, whether it's in-house or outsourced part-time in the beginning. Or maybe your sequences are hitting at a differrent time then your marketing and it's the timing that is causing the conversion and not the source. It's also important to start analyzing some data at this point and consider with your current email cadance, how many of your contacts are engaging with both marketing emails and sales sequences, but are maybe only converting on the latter? If you write off the marketing efforts because it's not a direct conversion, but later find that 75% of your conversions had touched both to convert, then you are throwing away solid awareness marketing. Just don't look for it to replace your marketing as you should train your customers to want to open the marketing emails and show value with them as well. With that said, if the assets and webinars are related to the prospect/customer and align with where they are in their journey, then by all means include it. ![]() The downside to making your sequences a promotional channel is that as your prospects turn into customers if they think the only thing they are going to get sent are webinar invites and endless PDF files from reps, they will become trained that this is all the rep is going to send them and may tune it out and may start to ignore that channel. |
